Advertising on the internet is a beautiful thing when it works. But when it goes south, it’s terrible. When advertising on the internet, you have to understand that the rules of offline advertising don’t change. You can quite literally build yourself a profitable and fruitful business just from advertising alone. That’s right, you don’t have to do any free marketing at all to have a successful online business.
Now I’m sure that this probably shocks you as unbelievable, but it’s true. When most people talk about getting traffic and sales online, they always mention tactics such as SEO, email marketing, blogging, social media, and Youtube. But they almost never mention paid advertising. In fact, alot of people talk about paid advertising like it’s a sin! It’s ridiculous, because if you’re in the right niche, in the right place, at the right time… and you’re doing paid advertising… it can make you a fortune.
Take a minute and think about this for a second. Imagine never having to wake up and really “work” on your internet business. Imagine only having a website that makes you money 24/7, with ads that automatically bring you traffic while you sleep – or while you’re doing whatever. You see ads are your employees. They’re like your personal sales force for you.
Think about it for a second. Imagine that you have a job. You are an employee. You get paid by the hour to do something (ultimately) for the CEO of the company. The CEO gets to chill and relax at home or at a resort with their spouse, while you’re hard at work like the loyal goon. The CEO pays you $9 per hour to make them $9,000 per day. Why not reverse the situation and hire some employees of your own? Well this is what advertising on the internet can do for you.
Now I’m not talking about going out and hiring a freelancer to write articles for you. I’m talking about writing an ad, and placing that ad in multiple locations on the web where people who are interested can find out more, and possibly order from you. With 1 ad, and your website sales presentation, you can run this combination and have a successful business in a short period of time.
Your ad and your website sales presentation will act as your own personal employee. Everywhere you advertise on the internet with your ad and website it will do the job of promoting yourself for you. And the remarkable part about it is that it’s incredibly cheaper than offline advertising. To run a display ad offline in a trade magazine would cost you about $500 per month (depending on the magazine and niche).
If you ever in your life run an ad in Entrepreneur or Time Magazine, expect to pay thousands of dollars per month. I know of people who’ve paid that much money to promote a simple low cost product, and have NEVER made money from doing it. But as soon as they went online and started advertising on the internet, they started making money. And they started making money because the economics of the internet is totally different.
You see with offline advertising, not only do you have to paid for the cost of the expensive ad, but you also have to do direct mail marketing too. And if you think selling a product via an ad directly will make you money, you’re absolutely wrong. You’re deluding yourself if you think this form of marketing your product will be successful. But would you ever try to do this on the internet?
Think about this for a minute. The only reason most people attempt to advertise their product directly through an ad is to offset some of cost of advertising. They want an immediate return on their investment (the ad), and it’s understandable. But what’s NOT understandable is how selling a product via an ad (that’s probably poorly written) for around $30, is going to offset the cost of a $500 per month ad.
I’ll let you do the numbers for your industry at your own time, but I think you see the point I’m trying to make. And I’m sure you would never try to attempt to sell a product via an ad online. The best thing that you can do for your product(s) when advertising online is to send your website visitor to your landing page and provide them with a full presentation of what you have to offer. This is why advertising on the internet is so great.
You don’t have a way (besides direct mail) to provide a full presentation in an ad that you place in a magazine. But you can easily run a banner ad online, and lead someone to your website where they can learn everything they need to know before purchasing in your product. In an offline ad, they don’t get that privilege. There’s simply not enough room in an ad to mention all the features and benefits of buying a product from you. But when you advertise on the internet, you suddenly become multi-dimensional.
Suddenly you have multiple advertising outlets at your feet, and for cheap. And you can test things out quick – without having to wait months for your ad to run, and without having to wait another month to submit an ad change. With most advertising outlets online, you can immediately change an ad’s details on the fly. This means that if something isn’t working that isn’t producing a high click through rate, you can change it.
Even more, if there’s something on your website that you think is annoying visitors and not convincing them to buy, you can change that quickly too. There are so many benefits to advertising on the internet that not doing it now (and correctly) would be a bad idea. And if you’re currently advertising on the internet but not getting the sales that you’d hoped for, then something needs to change. And it needs to change fast.
